Step 1: Verify Financing Eligibility
Before making your purchase, confirm with the dealer and your bank or financial institution that they allow vehicle financing under an LLC name. Montana law requires that your personal name cannot appear alongside the LLC’s name on the title or registration documents—it must be the LLC only.
Step 2: Form Your LLC and Obtain an EIN
If financing is permitted:
• Purchase the LLC/Registration Package from MontanaTags.com.
• Obtain an EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS by visiting https://irs.gov and clicking “Obtain an EIN.”
• Use the LLC name and company address provided by MontanaTags.com.
• When asked for managing members of the LLC, list the individuals you’ve designated (yourself, spouse, or other members).
Step 3: Provide Your EIN to the Dealer
Give the EIN and your LLC details to the dealer so they can include it with your credit application and title paperwork.
Step 4: Request Dealer Finance Instructions
Once you’ve purchased your LLC package from MontanaTags.com:

2. Registering a CURRENTLY FINANCED Vehicle or Watercraft Under Your LLC
Step 1: Obtain Lender Authorization
Yes—your currently financed vehicle or watercraft can be registered under your Montana LLC. You’ll need to request a Letter of Authorization from your finance company or bank.
Step 2: Include Required Information in the Letter
The authorization letter must include:
• Your vehicle or watercraft information (make, model, VIN/hull number, etc.)
• Your LLC’s full legal information

Step 3: Registration Must Be LLC-Only
Montana does not allow an individual’s name to be listed with the LLC on registration. The title and registration must show only the LLC.
